JEFF LATTZ
As a 34 year member of the fire service, retired Lt. from Champaign, IL FD, and long time fire service instructor, I’ve been obsessed and passionate about helping firefighters learn and better understand the buildings we operate in at fires and emergency scenes. Having a background in construction trades, this has always been an area of particular interest to me. About 20 years ago, I began to develop a series of training classes that I call “Building Comprehension for the Fire Service” which makes a break from traditional building construction classes by focusing on teaching different, but practical methods and ways to look at buildings and learn to recognize patterns, layouts and configurations to quickly make sense of them, improve situational awareness and better apply tactics and decision making. My mission is to help firefighters become safer and smarter on the fireground. I’ve presented classes to well over 6,000 firefighters and have been blessed with the opportunity to present at FDIC 2023 and 2024 and other events, as well as a few articles featured in Fire Engineering.
